This office is located at Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center. The medical center is approximately 14 miles Southeast of Downtown San Diego and 7 miles from the U.S.-Mexico border crossing. The hospital offers cardiac and cancer programs, emergency care, and outpatient and inpatient surgery. SCV sees more than 80,000 patients a year.

 Site Description:

  • 4200 sq feet
  • Entrance area with waiting room (5 chairs in waiting area, 1 large AA desk, 2 filing cabinets, 2 office chairs, 1 printer/fax machine, 2 BR’s)
  • 1 patient interview room/monitor overflow room (multiple cabinets, table and 2 chairs)
  • 1 patient exam room (crash cart, exam table, multiple cabinets, mayo table, locked limited access temperature controlled medicine cabinet)
  • Large patient infusion center (8 infusion pumps, 10 infusion chairs, 1 rolling cart , 3 site owned ECG machines, 6 mayo stands, 1 large needle box, 3 carts for medical supplies, 1 TV, 1 standing scale)
  • Nursing station (7 computers, 7 chairs , 1 locked patient  medicine refrigerator/freezer)
  • Additional staff room for coordinators (4 desk, 3 computers)
  • Lab room (-20 degrees freezer for lab specimens, 2 centrifuges, 1 refrigerated centrifuge, 1 lab tube rocker, 1 needle box container, 1 sink )
  • Break room (table, chairs, refrigerator for staff)
  • Site director’s office
  • Medium size supply room (medical and office supplies)
  • Locked case report room for binder storage
  • 1 conference room (conference table, multiple chairs, 1 desk area for Nurse Practioners , 1 computer, internet access for monitors)
  • 1 Doctors office (2 chairs and 2 computers)
  • Secure E-mail link with Sponsors
  • Food available at hospital cafeteria within walking distance
  • Pharmacy located  across street from site (in/out patient)
  • Walking distance to bus station and emergency equipped hospital (Sharp Chula Vista Hospital)

Staff Description:

  • 2 full-time CRC/CCRCs
  • 3 full-time research assistants
  • 1 full-time site director who also assists in staffing and patient visits
  • 1 full-time Principal Investigator and 6 part-time Sub-Investigator
  • 1  Administrative assistant (crossed trained to perform RA duties)
  • 8 RN study coordinators

Recruitment and Retention:

  • Patients are typically found at Sharp Chula Vista emergency room
  • Some patients are walk ins from referring physicians or referrals from the eStudySite recruitment team
  • Advertising is provided by the recruitment team
  • In servicing the appropriate physicians is a part of patient recruitment process
  • Transportation is provided by the company for patient visits
